The European Union has taken away from Ukraine about six million tons of old grain reserves. This was stated on his Twitter account by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrel.
"Our solidarity lines are working to clear the deposits of old Ukrainian grain reserves and improve import and export flows. At the moment, they have allowed for the export of 5.8 million tons [of grain] from Ukraine since April 2022," he wrote.
According to him, the volume of deliveries for the month in June almost doubled. Then 2.5 million tons of grain were exported.
In May, Borrel said that Ukraine would receive assistance from the European Union in the issue of exporting grain to Europe for sale in order to free up storage space for a new crop. According to him, grain can be exported both by land and by sea, depending on the circumstances.
A number of politicians and media in Ukraine and the West accuse Russia of provoking a crisis with grain supplies from Ukrainian territory. Moscow denies the charges, stressing that it does not directly affect the current situation. At the moment, the UN is trying to establish a mechanism for the export of grain stocks, which would make it possible to avoid a food crisis. The initiative also involves a package agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain in parallel with the Russian one.
